Séverine Plat-Monin

Born in Burgundy in 1978, Séverine Plat-Monin developed a passion for clay modeling at a very young age, shaping it instinctively since childhood. She attended numerous ceramics and sculpture workshops and learned direct carving in wood and stone. Ultimately, it was animal art that captivated her. Today, her work explores the possibilities of clay in bronze by sculpting birds. Séverine Plat-Monin's sculptures primarily aim to capture the expression of these creatures between earth and sky.  Working at the Rosini foundry and creating bronze sculptures helps to preserve the fragile work and to build the subtle balance of grace and movement.

A graduate of the Strasbourg University of Art, she teaches visual arts and also writes artist monographs. She has exhibited her work at GALERIE 26 since 2016.

For Séverine, clay is the material that best captures the human gesture in all its certainties and hesitations. Clay translates all human emotions. The transition to bronze glorifies and immortalizes the work without betraying its origins. The patina magnifies the human touch. Beyond the figurative, the artist seeks to harmonize both negative and positive spaces and the textures created by the clay allow her to express a poetry that goes beyond reality. The bird theme allows her to develop the poetic universe of flight, to observe poses that often defy gravity and to allow us to travel between heaven and earth.
